Water-scarce regions and arid hydrology
We determine water resources in water-scarce regions by developing adequate methods, which are adapted to this area and the arid climate. In particular dominant runoff generation processes and groundwater recharge are investigated and implemented into hydrological models. Also different tracers are used in combination to date the age of groundwater from several months to several decades. Thus it is possible to make reliable prediction of the spatial and temporal dynamics of available water resources as well as about age and recharge of groundwater. These information are a necessity for a sustainable management of water resources in these regions.
